Brass Bands England Liaison Officer, Rachel, recently visited the National Brass Band Archive in Wigan. The Curators, Walter and Alan, are guardians of a true national treasure, a trove of music, L.P’s, C.D.’s, photos, banners, and all manner of memorabilia recording the story of brass bands in society. The gentlemen are embarking on a new phase of the Archive, as they prepare to protect this record of our heritage and develop it for the future. As such they are seeking additional volunteers, for one-off projects or who can offer regular help. Volunteers could travel to the Archive’s base in Wigan, or if technically-minded enough, can work digitally. The Archive is seeking help with administration, Social Media, the website, maintaining and developing the music library, updating the displays, event co-ordination and fundraising. Expert writers or funding specialists who can donate a few hours of their time - regularly or on occasion - would be especially welcome in assisting with taking the Archive forward. Anyone who can help or who would like to find out more can contact Rachel Veitch-Straw at rachel@brassbandsengland.co.uk, leave a message on our facebook page, via Twitter @Brassbandseng, or contact the Archive directly on 01942 824 820 or via info@brassbandarchive.com
