BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Award 2016

Details of the BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Award 2016 now available.

This nationwide search for emerging young brass musicians provides performers with the chance to showcase their musical talents and progress with their future in music. A maximum of eight successful entrants will be invited to record up to 10 minutes of music of their choice with the world famous Brighouse and Rastrick Band at the BBC Studios in Salford. The judges will select four players to go through to the final, which will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 2. The prize for the winner of The Radio 2 Young Brass Award will be a feature session on Radio 2’s Listen to the Band, and a broadcast performance with an established group. Semi-finalists will be announced on Thursday December 17 and the semi-final competition will be on Sunday February 21 at the BBC Studios in Salford. Finalists will be announced on March 4 and the live final will take place on April 15th 2016 at The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Previous winners of the Award include: Ben Thomson – Principal Tuba, Royal Opera House Orchestra, Lewis Musson - Solo Euphonium, Central Band of The RAF, Katrina Marzella - inaugural title winner in 2004 , now Solo Baritone with Black Dyke and Matthew White - Solo Euphonium, The Tredegar Band.
