Entry details and an information pack are now available for the 2017 National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, to be held at the University of Salford on Sunday 2nd April 2017. *Closing date for entries is Tuesday 28th February 2017!* The test pieces selected for the Championship and Intermediate sections have been provided by two stars of brass band music composition. ‘Penlee’ composed by Simon Dobson, European Brass Band composers' competition winner 2002, provides the test piece for the Championship Section. A piece that was voted in at number 106 in the Classic FM Hall of Fame, the highest new entry of any genre and Dobson was the seventh highest living composer in the 300-strong list. ‘Smoke Sketches’ composed by Daniel Hall, will provide the test piece for the Intermediate Section. This piece has been commissioned especially for the event by Brass Bands England. Daniel from St Austell in Cornwall; was awarded a scholarship to study composition at South West Music School, leading onto a further scholarship at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. He has already been the composer in residence with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
