St Michael’s Brass Band

St Michael's Brass Band is an experienced self-supporting concert band, affiliated to St Michael's Church (www.stmichaelsmiddleton.co.uk). We are non- contesting and non-marching. Our engagements include involvement in fund raising for ourselves as well as assisting other groups with their fund raising events. For many years the band has played in Jubilee Gardens, Middleton for the May Day celebrations, Queens Park, Heywood, our local school fair, elderly day-care centers and many more.
We are available for private functions and are prepared to tailor our program according to requirements and subject to the availability of music. Our charges are considered to be reasonable and competitive and we are always willing to give a quotation.
We are a small band with many friends joining us each week from various bands such as Chadderton Brass Band, Ebenezer Band and others. We meet every Thursday at St Michael's Church Hall on Townley Street, Middleton, Manchester. We also have a Training Band rehearsal every Wednesday night at the same venue. Brass banding began at St Michael's Middleton circa 1976 when the Uniformed Groups borrowed instruments from 2nd Blackley and inaugurated the St Michael's Scout and Guide Band. A drum corps was added when the Guides raised funds to purchase four marching drums.
In 1989 the band became the St Michael's Church Band, playing under the batons of Mr Walter Hall 1989-1998, Mr Fred Pollitt 2000-2002, Mr Lee Dunkerly 2002-2004, Mr Jim Farnsworth 2004-2013 and Mr Malcolm Hill 2014 to the present day.
