Brass Band Archive: Volunteering

Brass Bands England is looking for volunteers to support the cataloguing and researching of the Brass Bands Archive in preparation for the public launch.

In-person volunteering

If you are interested in cataloguing the archive then in-person volunteering is for you. In-person volunteers are responsible for cataloguing and repackaging the archive alongside the archivist.

In-person volunteering can be done flexibly around your schedule, within office hours, and BBE are able to cover reasonable expenses for travel.

Remote volunteering

Remote volunteering options are available if you are unable to volunteer in-person. Our remote volunteers are sent weekly research tasks that help us to understand more about the collection. Research usually relates to composer birth and death dates, publication dates and authorship of the pieces in the collection, but there are also opportunities to undertake unique research tasks and to contribute to the Brass Bands Blog.

Remote volunteering is completely flexible and volunteers can commit as much or as little time as possible each week. Whilst specialist knowledge can be beneficial, these opportunities are open to those with a range of experiences, so long as you have a willingness to learn! Training and support will be provided to all volunteers.

Unfortunately our remote volunteering is currently paused while we focus on processing the remaining physical objects in the collection.

Email us at archive@bbe.org.uk for further information on volunteering, and to express your interest.
