Brass Foundations is Brass Bands England's education programme, led by a team of five Youth Development Brass Specialists who have years of collective experience and skills in performing, teaching and inspiring. They are currently delivering activity in 5 target areas (Warwickshire, Camden, Hertfordshire, Lancashire and Gloucestershire), but provide support further afield where possible.

What is Brass Foundations

Our core aims of objectives of the programme are:

  • To support musical youth organisations by supplying support, ideas and resources.
  • To deliver educational activity directly to children and young people in youth bands and schools.
  • To facilitate local bands to invigorate their own youth programmes, where they exist, and to start new ones where they don't.
  • To promote the recruitment and coaching of new, young brass players in the locality.
  • To act as a direct conduit between partner organisations representing and feeding into our member bands.
  • To signpost opportunities around the Youth Champs.

Anyone can get involved - whether you're a beginner wanting to learn more, a professional looking to improve your teaching, or a school wanting to feature more music-making. You can join the BBE mailing list to receive updates on Brass Foundations and other BBE initiatives.

After a successful launch we are pleased to announce that the programme has now been extended until at least 2023.

#PromsInThePlayground - What's it all about?

From 4 - 22 July we are encouraging community bands to connect with their local schools by offering a performance in their playground. As well as getting young people excited about brass banding, this initiative will help bands forge and strengthen relationships with organisations around them. Want to go beyond just a performance? Why not offer a taster session so school children can learn about the opportunities in your brass band? School's Summer calendars get booked up quickly, so now's the time to book in your performance! Find out more about how to get involved in Proms In The Playground.
