Event description
Establishing rapport with an audience — informing, engaging, and entertaining them — is a true skill. For many conductors, acting as a compere is an essential part of the role, yet one that often goes untrained.
David Hayward is one of the most respected and recognisable voices in the brass band world. His lifelong journey in banding began at just seven years old with the Celynen Collieries Band in Newbridge, South Wales, and has since spanned every level of performance — as a player, conductor, and now, a sought-after compere.
David brings a wealth of experience from the stage and the adjudicator’s table, having compered for prestigious events such as the British Open, Spring Festival, National Brass Band Championships, National Youth Championships, West of England Regional Championships, and the Welsh Open. He continues to work across the UK as a freelance conductor, adjudicator, and compere for bands, ensembles, concerts, and major competitions.
The BBCA is thrilled to welcome David to this virtual networking event, where he’ll share his expert advice, personal anecdotes, and practical tips on the art of compering. Whether you're a conductor, musician, or event organiser, this is a unique opportunity to learn from one of the best in the business.
This session will be hosted by BBCA Exec member Brendan Breslin.
