A Message to you, Rudy

A Message to you, Rudy - Performed by the Specials

Rocksteady originated in Jamaica in the late 60s and emerged out of ska but came before Reggae was truly established. It was all that was performed in Jamaica for about two years. This song was written in 1967 by Dandy Livingstone. Rumour has it that it took 10 minutes to write and only 20 minutes to record, two days later. The song actually achieved more fame in 1979 when Coventry band, The Specials, released it as a single. The single featured trombonist, Rico Rodriguez and trumpeter, Dick Cuthell.

The Specials are still together, still touring and still releasing albums.

Lyrics

Stop your messing around;
Better think of your future,
Time to straighten right out,
Creating problems in town.

Rudy,
A message to you, Rudy.
A message to you.

Stop your fooling around,
Time to straighten right out.
Better think of your future
Else you'll wind up in jail.

Rudy,
A message to you you, Rudy,
A message to you.

Stop your messing around,
Better think of your future.
Time to straighten right out,
Creating problems in town.

Rudy,
A message to you, Rudy x7
