Brass Bands England Webinar: Challenge 2030 - What does the future of banding look like?

Next up in the fortnightly Brass Bands England webinar series, the BBE team are joined by IVE Associate, Sophie Hunter, to look at the future of the sector.

Challenge 2030 is Brass Bands England’s ambition to see the make-up of its members and audiences more accurately reflect the communities and societies they represent, in 10 years' time. This webinar is part of a number of education, training and youth projects managed by BBE to help all its members reach this goal.

IVE’s Associate Sophie Hunter will deliver a session on the importance of Diversity and Inclusion, and why as a sector we must embrace it to remain relevant and sustain banding. Sophie will explore unconscious bias, legal responsibilities and the Arts Council’s Creative Case for Diversity, as well as providing an open forum to discuss the topic.

This is one of a number of activities Brass Bands England is undertaking around the topic of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. The EDI group is engaging with a variety of groups who support and work with those less well-represented in banding, to explore the issues that cause certain people to feel excluded from brass bands, or indeed music-making in the UK right now, and how this can be addressed. The plan is to develop support and resources to help bands proactively welcome new players to enrich and secure the future of banding. You

This webinar will be delivered online on Thursday 12 November at 7:00pm using the Zoom platform so attendees can interact and ask questions throughout the session. This session is free for BBE members, and £5 for non-members. More information on Band or Individual Membership can be found on the BBE website - https://www.bbe.org.uk/join-us. As usual, after the session we invite attendees to join the ‘BBE Pub’ to discuss the session and anything ongoing in the banding world. Come and join in the conversation, meet the BBE team and have a drink (or a cuppa!).
