Conductors of all levels, and from anywhere in the world, are invited to partake in the BBCA Conducting Competition for the chance to win amazing conducting opportunities and a cash prize.

What is the BBCA Conducting Competition?

The Brass Band Conductors’ Association Conducting Competition is the BBCA’s flagship event. The competition is a unique chance for aspiring and experienced conductors alike to showcase their talents and receive tailored feedback from a panel of BBCA experts.

Watch this video from previous entrant, Stuart Black, where he talks about the experience of taking part in the competition and how it can help you on your conducting journey.

What are the benefits?

Presentations will be made to the top three finalists and the best UK-based entrant, who all receive a glass plaque. The winner will also receive:

  • A cash prize of £200.
  • A year’s free membership to the Brass Band Conductors’ Association.
  • The opportunity to perform with the championship Foden’s Band at Regent Hall in London and rehearse with leading conductor, Russell Gray, at the Royal Albert Hall.

From all entries, 10 semi-finalists will be invited to take part in a final competition day at Halifax Minster on Saturday 28 June. Each will receive expert feedback from the adjudication panel on their conducting skills.

How do I enter?

To make use of the long Easter weekend, BBCA has extended the deadline for entries to midday on Tuesday 22 April. Entry into the first heat is easy – just submit a video of up to 15 minutes of yourself conducting. It can be as simple as filming yourself at a rehearsal!
