Due to unforeseen circumstances, the previous London venue (China Exchange) for The Brass Band Conference 2024 is no longer able to accommodate the event and the day has therefore been moved to the City of London School, also in central London.
Taking place on Saturday 19 October, this year’s Conference, organised by Brass Bands England (BBE), will be on the theme of “Creative Communities”. Highlights of the full day’s programme will include a keynote speech from composer Shri Sriram, a panel discussion chaired by Edward Gregson, and a performance and practical session by Kinetica Bloco.
New venue and drinks reception
City of London School sits on the north bank of the Thames, just minutes away from Blackfriars station with direct links to Kings Cross/St Pancras. Mansion House, St Paul’s, Cannon Street and Bank underground station are all within 10-minutes walk. If travelling to Blackfriars station you can arrive at the venue without having to cross any roads and can take in the wonderful riverside view along the way.
The venue is next to Millennium Bridge and boasts excellent views of the river, Tate Modern, the Shard and even Tower Bridge. The day will close with a complimentary networking drinks reception in the school's upper atrium with views of St Paul's cathedral and balcony views of the river and nearby sights.
The venue is fully wheelchair accessible,
New session: creating a Bloco Banger session
Recent additions to the programme include a practical session, delivered by Kinetica Bloco, to create a relevant, exciting tune by ear. Delegates will get to experience Kinetico's method and creative process, culminating in a group perform to the rest of the conference.
Andy Grappy, Senior Brass Director, said: “We hope that the session will give you some ideas and confidence in creating music aurally that you can take back to your bands across the UK and also help you see ways you can get young people excited by brass banding!”
