It’s been a tremendous 18-months for Burbage Band (Buxton) and their ambitious project, ‘Burbage Works’, which received £36,885 in funding after the band utilised Brass Bands England’s member exclusive Fundraising Service.

A multi-faceted project showcasing a history of the band and brass band music from their formation in 1864 right up until the present day, it culminated this summer with the premiere of the documentary ‘Heart of Brass’ - a documentary that all banders can now enjoy at home by streaming on Amazon Prime or purchasing the DVD.

A small village with a big heart of brass

Burbage Band (Buxton) has always drawn players solely from the local area, and continues to serve that community through local concerts, lessons and instrument loans. The Heart of Brass documentary, which has celebrated a run of awards and honorable mentions from film festivals (including Best Film at Buxton Festival Fringe), is a reflection of that service and community strength.

Reviewers on IMDB hail the documentary as “educational, funny and heartwarming” and that it showcases the band’s "resilience, bravery and readiness for change of style and outlook”. So pop the kettle on, settle down and stream ‘Heart of Brass’ today.

You can perform the music

To accompany the Burbage Works concerts, a brand new set of music was composed and arranged by the band’s in-house composer, Sam Pollard. Sixteen new pieces were created for the concerts to tell the story, and all are available to download via the Burbage Band (Buxton) website.

While all work is free to download, donations are welcome and the link to do so is available on the sheet music download page.
