Have your say: Be a Youth Voice in banding for 2026

Thursday, 18 December, 2025

Are you under 25 and interested in shaping the future of brass banding? Keen to share ideas, experiences, and the great work already happening across the movement? Our Youth Voice Community offers a welcoming space to do exactly that.

Led by our young trustees Hannah Beech and Reuben Tendler, the group brings together young people from across the brass banding community to share perspectives, raise issues that matter to them, and help inform our work to support the sector. The group meets four times a year via Zoom, with meetings scheduled on evenings or weekends to suit participants.

This call for members is part of a renewed push as we looks ahead to 2026 and beyond, ensuring that young people are not just involved in banding, but actively helping to shape its future.

Join the Community

The first meeting of 2026 will take place on 25 January, and those interested are encouraged to join the Youth Voice WhatsApp group by 25 January to receive joining details and future updates.

The Youth Voice Community complements BBE’s Member Working Group, The Sounding Board, which brings together member bands and sector representatives to help shape a positive future for brass bands. Together, these groups ensure that voices from across the movement — including young people — are heard.

BBE is also committed to supporting its members to develop strong youth voice within their own bands. This might include involving young people in the running of the band, inviting them into decision-making processes, or creating space for youth leadership. Being open and inclusive is a powerful first step — but it’s also worth asking deeper questions:

  • Are young people’s voices genuinely being heard?
  • Are their opinions respected?
  • Is there space for young people to lead?
