Event Information

Youth Champs 2025 will take place at Hymers College, Hull on Saturday 29 March. Please find below important information for your visit:

Travel and Directions

Venue address: Hymers College, Hymers Avenue, Hull, HU3 1LW

Hull Paragon Station is only a 25 minute walk from Hymers College. Once you’ve arrived at the station, turn left along Frenesway and then left again on Spring Bank, finally left again at Hymers Avenue and the school is located at the end of the residential street.

We encourage everyone to use public transport to reach us where possible.

Parking

There is ample onsite parking at the school, please enter the school site via the main entrance gate at the very end of Hymers Avenue. Please note that coaches are directed to the right-hand side of the junction for Sunny Bank Road for the coach entrance. 

There is additional local parking available at Hull Main and Spring Street car parks, both of which are only a 20 minute walk.

Important travel information update

We wanted to make you aware of potential traffic issues on the day, as Hull City are playing Luton Town at home. Their stadium is in close proximity to our venue, and we anticipate that access to Hymers College may be particularly busy during key times:

Expected Busy Periods:

  • 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM
  • 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

Please allow extra time for your journey.

Access

The school site is fully accessible. All performances take place in ground floor halls. If you require any further support or signposting please speak to a member of staff on the day.

 

Ticket Collection

Tickets purchased in advance are to be collected from the Box Office/Information desk in the Learning Resource Centre on the day of the contest, under the name you provided when purchasing online.

Tickets can be purchased on the day from the Box Office. The Box Office will be open from 8 am.

On the day ticket prices:

Adults: £16

Children under 18: £8

Children under 5: Free

The Box Office will be signposted, please look out for event signage when arriving on site.

 

Timings

The venue will be open for audience members from 8am. 

Hall 1 doors will open at 9am with the first performance beginning at 9.30am.

Hall 2 doors will open at 9.30am, with the first performance starting at 10am.

Catering will open from 8.45am, breakfast service runs from 8.45am - 10am, and lunch from 11am - 3pm. Food vans will be open 3pm - 8pm.

In Hall 1 results for the Besson Prodige Showcase Section will take place at approximately 12.10 - 12.35pm, and results for the Championship Section will take place at approximately 7.20pm.

In Hall 2 results for the Yamaha Performance Section will take place at approximately 8pm.

 

Performance Halls

The Besson Prodige Showcase Section and the Championship Section will play in Hall 1 (Hymers College, Main Hall). 

The Yamaha Performance Section will play in Hall 2 (Hymers College, Judi Dench Theatre). 

Signs and staff will direct you when on site. 

Please check signage to ensure that you are in the correct hall prior to the performance.

 

Programmes and Merchandise

A limited amount of exclusive Youth Champs merchandise will be available to purchase on the day, including programmes, t-shirts and teddies. These will be available from the Box Office/Information desk in the Learning Resource Centre.

Trade Stalls

The trade stalls can be found in the Learning Resource Centre. 

We have a great range of trade stands to explore, including a wonderful range of instruments from section sponsors Besson and Yamaha plus Geneva Instruments, brass education stands from RNCM and the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, alongside British Army Music and the Brass Band Conductors Association.

The trade stalls also offer the opportunity to find out about what more BBE has to offer including Brass Foundations, Fundraising and the brilliant Brass Band Archive exhibition will also be popping up.

 

Catering

Hot drinks, snacks and sandwiches will be available to purchase from the Dining Hall throughout the day until 3pm. The breakfast service runs from 8.45am - 10am, and lunch from 11am - 3pm. 

The cafe will be open in the Learning Resource Centre for hot and cold drinks until 3pm. 

You are also welcome to bring your own refreshments.

From 3pm, additional food vans will be on site located in the central Quad serving burgers, chips, hot and cold drinks. You can view the Sama Sama food van menu in advance. The food vans will stop serving at 8pm.

The city centre is a 20 minute walk or 6 minute drive from the venue and has shops, cafes and restaurants.

 

Filming and Photography

Photography is permitted during performances; however, to minimise disruption, we kindly ask that you remain seated while taking photos.

As part of our commitment to safeguarding young people, please ensure that you only photograph individuals for whom you have obtained permission. We appreciate your cooperation in creating a safe and respectful environment for all participants.

For safeguarding reasons, please refrain from filming extended periods of performances or sharing any video clips on social media.

Please note that young people with RED wristbands cannot be photographed or have their images shared. If taking photos at the event to share online please do not take or use any that contain a young person with a red wristband. If you have any questions or concerns please speak to a member of BBE staff.

Where to find help: BBE staff and volunteers will be posted around the site and easily noticeable: BBE staff will be in branded black or coloured polo shirts with orange lanyards, and volunteers in orange t-shirts. If for some reason there are neither in the immediate vicinity, the Box Office/Information desk in the Learning Resource Centre will always be manned.
