Brass Bands England is proud to recognise those individuals and organisations in the banding world that have made an exceptional contribution to brass banding.  Be it through inspiring young people, tireless dedication, leading imaginative creative projects and collaborations, or bringing about positive social change. There is plenty to be celebrated!

Nominations are now being welcomed for the following categories:

  • ⭐️ NEW: The Band Project of the Year Award

Has your band or a band you know delivered an exciting project during this past year? This new award is designed to recognise an organisation that initiated and delivered an original and successful project that has added value to its intended audience or participants, and has promoted banding, be it nationally or within their area. Projects should have taken place between March 2021 and February 2022.

  • Innovation Award

This award is for a person or organisations who is propelling brass banding into the future through great innovative, inclusive and imaginative ways of doing band that are practical, appealing and can be widely-replicated.  Such innovations will have a hugely positive impact on banding.

  • Social Impact Award

This organisation will have made a massive positive impact on their local community, either through outreach, fundraising, or involvement in making their community a better place.  They will have delivered benefits to their community, raised the profile of banding and engaged with more diverse audiences in the process.

  • Outstanding Contribution Award (Over 18s)

This award is for someone who has made an outstanding contribution to their band, whether that's musically, through band organisation or community engagement. We want to hear about someone who has shaped your banding experience for the better, or perhaps someone who has shown great commitment and dedication or overcome great challenges, personal or otherwise, to make a positive contribution.

  • Outstanding Contribution Award (18 and under)

This award is for a young person who has made an outstanding contribution to brass banding, whether that's musically or through band organisation or community engagement. We want to hear about someone who has shaped your banding experience for the better, or perhaps someone who has shown great commitment and dedication or overcome great challenges, personal or otherwise, to make a positive contribution.

  • The Brian W Hicks Memorial Shield for Services to Youth

The winner of this award will have made a huge positive impact on youth or services to youth in the banding sector demonstrated through their own personal commitment and dedication over a considerable length of time. Their activities will have been far-reaching and inclusive.  (This award will not be awarded to the same person twice).

  • Lifetime Achievement Award

This award is for an inspiring individual who has made a significant and sustained positive contribution to the brass band culture at a national or international level over the course of their lifetime.  This will have involved huge personal engagement, commitment, and influence, resulting in a lasting legacy or positive impact on banding.

How can I make a nomination?

If you would like an organisation or individual to be recognised, complete the online nomination form. If you prefer, you can download a copy of the nomination form and return it to us via post or email.

The closing date for 2022 nominations is noon on 13 May 2022.

How does the award selection process work?

The awarding panel will be made up of selected Brass Bands England trustees and senior staff.  The panel will select a shortlist for each cateogory, with the exception of the Lifetime Achievement Award, where one outright winner will be selected,

'Band Project of the Year' finalists will then go to public vote, giving the banding community and its audiences the chance to vote for their favourite project.

All winners will be announced in a ceremony at the Brass Bands England Conference on Saturday 22 October taking place in Manchester and online.

Got questions?

These awards are open to all and not restricted to residents of England. However, awards will be judged on the activities and benefits recognised within England. Bands may include wind bands and other band formations that have a significant brass section. The name of the nominator(s) will not be revealed to the nominee without prior consent and shortlisted entries will not be made public until the nominee has accepted their shortlisting. Further details of who can nominate or be nominated please read the Awards nomination information.
