Brass Bands England is delighted to announce details of ‘Elevate’ - a new collaborative programme bringing together brass bands and artists to create and learn together across a nine-month partnership. Brass Bands England is seeking to pair member brass bands looking to challenge their normal performance practice with artists who will help push their boundaries by exploring new ideas, genres and ways of performing in a collaborative partnership.

BBE’s Education and Development Manager, Sarah Baumann, commented: “The Elevate programme is a key element of our Arts Council England-funded activity from 2023 to 2026. This is an opportunity for brass bands of all levels to step out of their comfort zone and explore new ideas with a new artist, supported by the Brass Bands England team.”

Sarah continued: “We are deliberately keeping the definition of ‘artist’ broad to allow for opportunities for creative individuals from a range of disciplines and backgrounds to work on the project. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for bands and artists to create something truly unique and innovative.”

A residency fee of £1,250 paid in instalments across the programme. Further details of the programme can be found on Brass Bands England’s Elevate page.

How can I apply?

An open call for Artists is open until Monday 8 May 2023. Please visit the Elevate Artist information page for more details. To discuss the opportunity, interested artists can book a 1:1 Zoom call with BBE’s Projects Officer, Jess Wilson, or email elevate@bbe.org.uk.

Applications for brass bands to participate will open in June 2023. This first round of applications will see a band and artist paired from September 2023 to April 2024, working towards a performance outcome by the end of that period. Those with questions about the programme can register for a Q&A Zoom session on Tuesday 4 April email elevate@bbe.org.uk. This sessions will be recorded for anyone who is unable to attend live.
