Future Leaders Programme students share impact of course

Thursday, 18 December, 2025

Following an outstanding set of results of the 2025 Brass Foundations Future Leaders’ Programme, we've produced three case studies exploring the impact on the communities and networks of those who participated.

What is the Future Leaders Programme?

The Brass Foundations Future Leaders’ Programme is a year-long course focused on developing the talent of youth band leaders in the brass band sector. The course provides a unique training experience, with practical workshops, ongoing mentorship, peer networking, and support to complete the RSL Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Music and Performing Arts Learning.

From strengthening teaching practices to building support networks, the new case studies delve deep into how each candidate implemented learnings from the course within their own banding activities.

The three case studies can be found together on the BBE website. They are:

Julie Hoggarth - Growing confident community Band Leaders

This case study highlights how Julie Hoggarth strengthened her teaching practice, grew her confidence as a leader, and embedded inclusive, learner-centred approaches into her community ensemble, T-Brass.

Andrea Lewis - Creative leadership in youth brass

This case study highlights how Andrea Lewis brought new ideas into her band sessions, structured rehearsals more effectively, and increased engagement and retention among young players in her Bandbuilders programme.

Joy White - Leading beginners with confidence

This case study highlights how Joy White developed confidence as a band leader, implemented effective session structures for beginners, and built a supportive network of fellow brass tutors.
