Our new fundraising service has launched

Fundraising is written on a white notepad where various cartoon figures are pointing towards a pile of coins

We are thrilled to have just launched a new fundraising service, which will support brass bands to produce and submit grant applications.

As a result of grant funding from the Backstage Trust, the service has been devised to:

1. Help brass bands identify the best funders for their projects

2. Support bands in creating and articulating their Case for Support

3. Enable bands to be more effective in securing and sustaining new sources of funding for artistic programmes, education/community activities and building projects.

Why is a fundraising service needed?

At the heart of fundraising there are some very basic principles which - if followed - can lead to success. This is particularly true when writing grant applications where a well-researched, step-by-step approach is recommended.

Research demonstrates that music offers a strong contribution to achieving social and economic outcomes in society - ranging from improving the quality of life of people in care homes, to getting excluded young people back into education and employment. There are many arts activities funded by sources that have transformed people’s life chances and led to reduced isolation and loneliness.

Every brass band however, will have its own needs, community and ideas, which can take many forms but combine to make each band different and special. The new service is designed to help you align your proposed activity with the criteria of the fund to which you are applying.

How will the fundraising service work?

Brass Bands England’s new Fundraising Manager Pamela Johnson will work with you to support your fundraising efforts. As a qualified, professional arts and charity fundraiser, she can help you navigate the complex environment of public and private funding, supporting you to shape your proposal and ensure you present your chosen funder with the best possible case for support.

Pam commented: “I’m delighted to be joining BBE at a time when support for brass bands is needed more than ever before. I’d like to see greater levels of investment going to bands who have a real commitment to developing their offer and audience within their local community.  With significant experience of the funding sector, I’m here to offer grant writing, coaching and general fundraising support to help you make the best possible case for support. Let’s work together to give your band the funds it needs to continue to make a difference!“

How can I access the service?

Support is offered at a heavily subsidised rate due to external funding BBE has secured and includes selected services that are entirely free.

To find out more and to gauge whether this fundraising service is right for your band please visit the BBE fundraising service page on the Brass Bands England website.

The fundraising service is open to BBE member bands and individuals, who also have access to the Norman Jones Trust and BBE Project Fund. Find out more about joining BBE.
