About this event
The 139th Durham Miners' Gala takes place on Saturday 12 July, and Bearpark & Esh Colliery Band are proud to be performing. This annual spectacle sees over 200,000 people fill the streets of Durham for a celebration of mining heritage, community and working class life.
Bands and banner groups will collect in Durham's Market Place at 8.30am. Then, join us for a musical, colourful procession through the medieval city streets, culminating with a 'party piece' outside the County Hotel.
At 1pm the Chair opens The Big Meeting where guest speakers address the crowd. Following the speeches around 2.30pm, there's more brass band music on the way to Durham Cathedral for the Miners' Festival Service. The Gala is completely free and a vibrant celebration of local mining culture.
Please be aware there are multiple road closures and visitors are advised to arrive early.
