This is an opportunity for conductors of all levels and nationalities to demonstrate their skills at conducting a band or ensemble by submitting videos of themselves in action. Previous winners include Josh Geddes, Mark Edwards and Brendan Breslin, who have used the contest to launch careers in conducting.
The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of £500, a year’s free membership of the Brass Band Conductors’ Association and a glass plaque.
BBCA President, Russell Gray, commented: "I am delighted we are able to run this competition again, albeit virtually. It has now become an important event internationally for emerging conductors and I encourage anyone interested to go ahead and enter. It’s also a great way to receive positive feedback from the professional panel of judges we engage.”
Discounts apply for those who enter and join as BBCA members, who will also receive an audio commentary on their performance, whether or not they are shortlisted for the final.
Applicants can enter the competition and upload their videos via the BBCA Conducting Competition entry form which contains full details of the entry fee and competition rules. The closing date is 31st May. Three finalists will be selected to have their videos played and judged in a live zoom event hosted by BBCA on 27 June. A non-BBCA guest adjudicator will be included in the panel.
Entry to the BBCA conducting competition is £50, or £40 if you're a BBCA member.
