Acclaimed composer and broadcaster Martin Green has been announced as the keynote speaker for The Brass Band Conference 2025, taking place on Saturday 27 September at the historic Redhills Miners Hall in Durham. This year’s theme, ‘The Next Generation,’ puts young people and future leadership in the spotlight.
The conference brings together brass band innovators, leaders and future voices for a one-day gathering of ideas, collaboration and creativity, to reflect on the key issues and opportunities relevant to the future of brass banding.
Martin Green is a renowned musician, Ivor Novello Award-winning composer, and BBC broadcaster, recently praised for Split the Air, his groundbreaking collaboration with Whitburn Band and Sheona White, and his acclaimed two-part BBC Radio 3 series, Love, Spit and Valve Oil, which dives into the cultural heart of British brass banding.
The conference programme also includes exclusive behind-the-scenes insight from Flowers Band, revealing how they put together a Brass in Concert performance – offering a rare look at how a top-tier band prepares for one of the most high-profile contests in the calendar.
Attendees can also look forward to contributions from experts at ABRSM, AMP, and London Metropolitan Brass; respected voices such as Daniel Hall and John Watts; and fresh new voices making an impact, including Liv Appleton and Elise Hale.
The day will close with the Brass Bands England Awards ceremony, where we’ll celebrate both shortlisted nominees and category winners. Details of the shortlisted nominees, alongside the public vote for Band Project of the Year, can be found on our website's Awards page.
